One of the writing skills I felt that I have mastered over the semester is writing leads and attributions. I will admit that before this class, I was not sure how to properly write attributions and quotations. Over the course of the semester and after much practice, I finally felt that I mastered it when I scored a 100 out of 100 on both the lead and interview assignments.

EXAMPLE 1
EXAMPLE 2

One of the writing skills I had difficulties with is making sure to avoid subjectivity. On the inverted pyramid assignment, I lost a few points because I did not remove a subjective word from my writing.

EXAMPLE 3

I definitely think I need improvement and practice with writing more news releases. I found this to be the one assignment I felt stuck on the most. With more practice, they will get easier to write.

Prior to this class, I definitely was not aware that every single small detail is necessary when writing a good piece. I also learned how to write one perfect sentence at the beginning of my writings that will make or break it for readers.

After this semester, I will continue to enhance my writing skills by practicing how to write the different types of leads because this is the piece of your writing piece that should always draw the reader in. I will also continue to practice how to write in AP style because every detail counts.

Personally, I enjoyed the interview assignment the most. As nerve-racking as it was at first, I thought it was interesting to learn about another classmate of mine. You can learn a lot of cool things about different people you talk to!

I found the news release assignment to be the most difficult writing style to learn and the one assignment I had the most feedback to fix. The toughest thing about this writing style is that you want to make sure it looks absolutely perfect.

I learned AP writing style through practice and quizzes. I found myself opening my AP Style Guide for my other classes throughout the semester. The constant AP style practice along with the quizzes on attributions, quotations, capitalization, and numbers really helped me become proficient in AP style.

Self-reflection can help your writing because it allows you to really dig and think about where you can improve and make your writing that much better. I also think that having someone else read your writing or reading your writing aloud to yourself helps you catch every detail!
